Ok so I was able to run CS 1.6 in OpenGL but now I can't. Anything thing to resolve this? thanks.

did you recently update your video driver or replace your video card? cs 1.6 only runs in open gl there is no other way to produce the game with using it. It should be running in open gl mode anyway if your card does not support open gl or an earlier version you will need to find a wrapper for it.

Well, I wouldn't know but all I updated was the windows XP service pack from 2 to 3.

yes its most likely a driver issue just make sure you get the latest video driver for your video card if thta doesnt work then rollback your driver to a version that works

Sorry but this might be a stupid question, any idea how to roll back a driver XD? I tried downloading the installer pack for SP2 but says I have a better version already. So any ideas?

to rollback or update your driver you must do this. to update: go online type in the kind of video card you have something like "geforce whatever driver" in google find the best version of it. download it and install it.
To rollback: go to start right click my computer go to properties. A window should appear click the hardware tab. Select device manager. once in device manager look for display adapters near the top open it up you should see your video card name there right click it select properties. now click the driver tab. you should see a button for rollback drivers click it and follow the prompts.
