To save much time and effort, the following strategies are advised if you have problems with Vista and running CSS.

1. Downgrade to Windows XP. If your computer is good enough to run Vista, it will be good enough to run XP.
2. Buy a seperate gaming computer.
3. Ask here if you think that it is not Vista that is causing the problem. (eg. Lag issues e.t.c.)
4. Finally, try typing the error message in Google and looking for results.

If your specs are far above the RECOMMENDED specs in ALL categories then your issue is not related to vista.
Here are a few things to watch out for when running vista and gaming
1. low amount of ram 1gb may seem like alot but vista OS uses an entire GB of ram just to run itself with no other programs running. XP only uses about 500MB of ram.
2. Shared video memory. This is by far the worst. If your video card has a decent amount of DEDICATED ram such as 256MB and lower and your shared video memory is about the same amount of higher than you will have issues. The cause is shared video memory uses system RAM to allocate more video ram to the game. CSS by default will use ALL of your video ram to run itself. Newer DX10 games are much more compatible.
3. Drivers for older video cards. Your awesome PC may run fine on XP, due to differences in driver builds a vista driver may not use your video card or other devices as well as an XP driver would for the XP OS.
4. Vista by default has more overhead and more resource usage than XP. It also is a DX10 OS. This means older games such as CSS will not run as well as a DX 9 lvl OS like XP.

If you feel that your machine should run fine on Vista than please post your dxdiag and your issue in the following forum and ask for help.

Vista is a resource hog so unless you have top parts don't expect to play updated games.

im running crysis on full using vista :S

i have vista, sometimes i can get into servers, sometimes i cant. it usually freezes on the "ok" screen where the servers website is shown. i then usually reboot my computer. again, i have vista, and the servers sometimes work, or they dont.

Vista is really unpredictable, i have some friends with vista, and every program works fine with no lag, and i have friends with vista that have had reinstall XP as their OS because of the sytem lag and frequent crashes. I do know from friends who have Vista is that a lot fo Cracked programs and games tend to ware down on the vista OS

HEy guys i have a problem here. Whenever i pop in the Cd into my computer ( by the way i have vista) Nothing comes up.I've tried everything and it still doesnt come up. I have a laptop that has XP That runs it fine, but i'm more comfortable with the PC than i am laptop. I'm new to Vista so im not really sure how to get to My computer, because its not on the desktop.

This may sound like a stupid question but i need help.

i have vista and i have played many first person shooters on PC and other kinds of games on PC but css is the first one to lag on it.
