Source Engine Update Released

Updates to the Source Engine have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Graphics
  • Fixed occasional graphics artifact tearing run running on Nvidia 6800 hardware
  • Fixed mismatch of bumpmapped/non-bumpmapped surfaces in HDR
  • Fixed bug where mat_colorcorrection wasn't getting set properly on when running for the first time
  • Updated default configuration settings for some newer video cards
  • Fixed full-screen flicker bug when Alt-Tabbing out of fullscreen (particularly at high resolutions)
User Interface
  • Added progress bar state to print a description when the server changes levels
  • Show disconnect dialog when client connection times out
  • Fixed anti-aliasing on fonts
  • Fixed a memory leak in vgui
  • Fix for startup video not showing correctly if running fullscreen with desktop resolution less than or equal to 1024x768
  • Fixed bug where game would crash when taking a bug screenshot if the screen/window resolution was wider that 2048 pixels
Sound
  • Fixed sound initializing twice at startup in some cases
  • Optimized sound engine performance
  • Fixed a bug where machines without proper sound hardware and/or drivers would crash
SourceTV
  • Added SourceTV port and delay time to status output if SourceTV is active
  • Added new command net_status that shows more detailed information about total and average packet loss, latency, packets/sec and bandwidth
  • Added convar tv_autoretry 1 so relay proxies try to reconnect after connection crashed/timed out
  • Added convar tv_timeout to specify connection timeout limit in seconds
  • Improved spectator client dispatching, should be faster and balance better
  • Fixed SourceTV relays being unable to connect to sv_lan 1 servers
  • Fixed SourceTV servers reporting password restrictions
  • Fixed SourceTV bots joining game even if disabled
  • Fixed disappearing weapons in SourceTV
  • Fixed spectator chat not displaying on relay proxies
  • Fixed SourceTV crash during changelevel
  • Fixed command tv_record crashing relay proxies
  • Reduced SourceTV CPU requirements

Steam News: CS:Source HDR Maps and Enhancements Soon!

In this week's Steam News Update, Valve announced more HDR-enabled versions of maps as well as game enhancements in the next few weeks.

Counter-Strike: Source and Day of Defeat: Source are also both gearing up for releases in the next few weeks. Counter-Strike: Source has more HDR-enabled versions of maps on the way, along with some enhancements to the game itself. Day of Defeat: Source is getting ready for a significant release that will add a number of new features, along with a new map named Colmar. Colmar is the first map to take advantage of a new objective system that allows us to build different kinds of levels than currently exist. Stay tuned for specifics on how the map plays out, but for now here's a screenshot of the sleepy night-time village.

Two New Models for CS: Source

Updates to Counter-Strike: Source have been released that include two new movels and HDR lighting in de_dust. Valve added the GSG9 and Arctic models. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. Specific changes include:

Counter-Strike: Source
  • Added HDR lighting to de_dust
  • Resized some crates in de_dust to fix players being able to peek over them
  • Added GSG9 and Arctic player models
  • Improved lag compensation
  • Unified client and server player anims
  • Bot navigation files on disk are preferred over nav files embedded in bsps
  • Bots can use drop-down ladders

CS: Source Map Updates Coming Soon

In last week's Steam News Update, Valve announced that they are planning on going back to some of the older Counter-Strike: Source maps and giving them an HDR pass. Soon you'll get to play maps like de_dust with full High Dynamic Range lighting.

SAS & Leet Models Released for CS: Source

The SAS and Leet models have finally been released for CS: Source! The update will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

  • Added Leet and SAS player models
  • Fixed players being able to run up very steep slopes for short distances
  • Fixed low-violence models not animating properly
  • Improved player ragdolls

GameOn-CS CS: Source Tournament

GameOn-CS is hosting a Counter-Strike: Source tournament. The tournament promises a prize pool of $2,720 with an entry fee of $50 per team/clan. Two New Models for CS:Source in Next Update

In the weekly Steam news update, Valve has announced that there will be two new models released for Counter-Strike: Source with the next update. There will be one new model for each team.

The weekly news also stated that the map Kalt for Day of Defeat: Source will be released in the next week. Also, a boxed retail version of DoD: Source should be hitting store shelves in early February.

CPL Summer CS:Source Tournament

CS:Source Update with Two New Models

Updates for Counter-Strike: Source and the Source Engine have been released. The most notable update is the addition of two models: the Terrorist Guerilla and Counter-Terrorist GIGN.

Counter-Strike: Source Updates
  • Added G.I.G.N and Guerilla player models
  • Sniper rifles that are in the process of zooming in don't get the zoomed-in accuracy bonus
  • Fixed crosshairs when running in a widescreen aspect ratio
  • Added a 'nextlevel' server side command to force intermission and a switch to the specified map after the current round
  • Fixed bug where players were able to throw grenades through thin walls
  • Added a server message for teammate attacks
  • Fixed buy menu not having mouse focus
  • Fixed buy menu re-opening when you try to close it.
  • Fixed centerprint panel and frames per second panel not resizing correctly after a resolution change.
  • '&' chars in player names show in the scoreboard and spectator UI
  • In-eye spectators see punch angles
  • Fixed bots thinking they are still on a higher nav area when they fall off
  • Added nav area ID to the bot debug prints
  • Extended the bot_add*, bot_kick, and bot_kill commands to accept skill (easy, normal, hard, expert) and/or weapon preference (sniper, shotgun, etc) arguments. For example, typing ‘bot_add_ct expert” will add a random bot of ‘expert’ difficulty to the CT team.
  • Added difficulty, weaponclass, and skill modifiers to the bot_prefix string
  • Navigation mesh editing - raising/lowering corners correctly snaps adjacent corners to the same height
